ERA-NET on ICT for Traditional Manufacturing Industries
Project acronym: eTranet
Coordination: Department of Trade and Industry, UK
Project partners:
ICT Technological Area: all
Sectors of ICT Implementation: 1. Industrial Equipment and Machinery, 3. Chemicals, Materials and related Equipments, 5. Transportation, 7. Agricultural, Forestry, Fishing, Animal Husbandry and related Products, 8. Consumer Goods
Project duration: 48 months
Project start: 01/12/2003
EC funding: 2.75 M EUR
Project aim:
The eTranet Coordination Action is aimed at improving the quality, quantity and impact of research and innovation in the domain of ICT in Traditional Manufacturing Industries. These industries account for a relatively high proportion of EU employment, GDP and exports but need to increase their research intensity in response to intense global competition. However, recent trends in the design of national research programmes has led to the (unintentional) exclusion of these industries because their capacity to participate in leading edge RTD is relatively weak. These common challenges for companies and public sector RTD programmes in Europe provides the basic rationale for improved coordination within the European Research Area.
