German Education and Research Minister Edelgard Bulmahn and Hungarian Education Minister Bálint Magyar signed a declaration of intent on cooperation in scientific research and development on 15 September 2004.
Under the terms of the cooperation agreement joint projects will be implemented with equal funding contributed by both countries.
The cooperation is a first step towards the establishment of a joint new ICT research institute and a significant step in integrating research effort by pooling resources and expertise in the pilot field of ambient intelligence.
Research cooperation will include German partners, the Technical University of Kaiserslautern and the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering (IESE) and Hungarian partners, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and the Inter-University Center
