_

The ISI technology platform addresses the convergence of broadcasting, broadband and mobile satellite communications

February 1st 2006 marked the inauguration of the European Technology Platform, ISI (Integral Satcom Initiative), addressing the converging world of satellite communication with over 100 members representing industry, associations and research institutes, as well as universities of 17 European countries.

ISI identifies research needs and priorities of a medium to long term (5-20 years) scope and is designed as a technology platform for the EU Seventh Framework Programme. The strategic research agenda focuses on the three converging areas of broadcasting, broadband and mobile satellite communications with the vision to ensure digital services to European users wherever they are and whatever they are doing. Furthermore, the initiative addresses the integration of satellite communications with fixed and mobile terrestial telecommunications networks, including issues of interworking and interoperability. The initiative also calls for the exploration of dual-use and security issues, as well as integration with other space infrastructures for navigation and observation systems, including GMES and Galileo.

Further information and the strategic research agenda is available from the ISI website:
