The seventh European Technology Platform in the IST field is launched in the area of photonics

1-2 December 2005 marked the launch of the seventh European Technology Platform in IST in the area of photonics, at a workshop was co-organised by the EU funded project, OPERA 2015.

Photonics21 is based on the vision document entitled "Photonics for the 21st Century" endorsed by 65 European stakeholders in the spring of 2005. The platform aims to build a strategic research agenda on the basis of a shared vision between industrial and public actors to achieve strong European leadership in Photonics. It focuses on five industrial areas - Information and Communication, Lighting and Displays, Manufacturing, Life Science, and Security -, as well as in Education and Training.
